The UNESCO World Conference on Higher Education, held in Paris in 1998, recognized quite emphatically the importance of education and particularlyly higher education for sustainable endogenous development, for democracy and peace, for strengthening defense of peace as one of the human values, and for the respect and protection of human rights and fundamental freedom.
